Awesome drops, interesting canals, virgin slopes, fantastic snow conditions, great views of Mont Blanc:  good and passionate free riders know the best itineraries are found in the area at the top of the Youla and Arp cable cars.
The canals of Checrouit (accessible from the Checrouit Gondola), the canals of Vesses, of Arp, of the crest of Youla and of Dolonne are itineraries which for their great interest and many possibilities that they offer attract more and more skiers and snowboarders from all over the world. In order to undertake the descents in these fantastic places you must follow the safety regulations and be equipped with the necessary equipment and check that you ARVA works when you get to the top (for those who are interested there is an ARVA test field available at Pre de Pascal).

The A,B,C of Freeride

Freeride, a sport of nature.

A sport of movement, in touch with nature, free, open spaces, in search of fun, make rendering secondary the competitive aspect.

Freeride is an off piste activity in fresh snow, in areas that are not equipped, away from the pistes that are serviced by the lifts.   It requires dedication and attention to the fundamental rules of off piste. For example, when skiing off piste it is recommended that you never ski alone and it is advisable that you use an alpine guide.
It is recommended that you never leave on your own and that you are able to cancel if the conditions are difficult and the avalanche danger does not permit the descent..

These itineraries are for good riders with experience on all types of snow and on all steepness, not only easy slopes.
The mountain professionals recommend that you estimate the conditions of the snow coverage before leaving and to equip yourself obligatorily with the following materials:

Necessary equipment
  • Rucksack with spade and probe
  • Helmet or hat, flask and energy bars
  • Mobile phone with emergency numbers
  • Warm and technical clothes and gloves
  • Obligatory ARVA
  • Sun cream and the right sunglasses or goggles
  • Camera or video camera

To practice in the use of the ARVA, there are 2 ARVA fields available:
  1. Pré de Pascal (Courmayeur ski area)
  2. Pavillon (Mnt Blanc Cable Car)
The workers of the lifts are available for any information regarding the snow conditions, weather conditions and other useful advice for a safe descent.
You can also check the site Fondazione Montagna Sicura Villa Cameron full of good advice.

AVALANCHE RISK

The off pistes areas are neither secured, nor marked, nor patrolled.
Off pistes skiing is practiced at the skier’s own risk.
Carrying an ARVA (avalanche transceiver) is strongly recommended.

The level of avalanche risk  is indicated with a rate (from 1 to 5)  on the information signs at the base of the 3 main lifts :

-       Dolonne cabin lift
-       Val Veny cable car,
And on various lifts on the ski area :
-       on the edge of Maison Vieille chair lift,
-       at  Col Checrouit (inside and outside of the Col Checrouit building)
-       at the arrival of Youla cable car
The information is also avalaible on the website.

Before going off pistes, practice using your avalanche transceiver in the special area ARVA Park Pré de Pascal à Val Veny.
