Discover the history of the Courmayeur Mont Blanc Lift company...
Since 1908 the families Donzelli, Gilberti and Lora Totino holidayed in the beautiful Courmayeur and thanks to their farsightedness the era of the cable cars started in Courmayeur.
In 1939, the passion for the mountain pushes the Count Lora Totino to create the Society Monte Bianco with the realization of the cable car from La Palud to Punta Helbronner.
From 1941 to 1945, the first “rotoslittovia” (a sort of sledge lift) is constructed from Dolonne to Plan Checrouit, Colle Checrouit. In 1948, the summer lifts at Colle del Gigante were constructed and put into operation. The extension of the ski area on the Courmayeur side – Checrouit, was realized in 1952 with the construction of the cable car Courmayeur – Plan Checrouit and a few years later with the construction of the Youla cable car and lots of other lifts.
From the seventies there was a relaunch of the ski resort with the development of the Val Veny side and the connection of the two sides was made possible due to the work of Dott. Savoretti Piero. A passionate person with great vision, Dott. Savoretti decided in 1978 to create the biggest cable car in the world with room for 133 and carrying 1500 p/h: The Giant. An innovation for its time!
At the beginning of the nineties the Savoretti group ceases to have the majority quota and it passes to the Pavan group who change the company name to Courmayeur Mont Blanc Funivie.
In 1996 the Compagnie des Alpesresumes the majority of the actions of the society and plans new and important investments:
the realisation of piste no. 25 to Dolonne
construction of the new gondola at Dolonne
construction of the new chairlift Pra Neyron
renovation of the Checrouit gondola
cconstruction of the new drag lift at Tzaly
substitution of the cables on the Courmayeur cable car
